With “Rewind,” Danish collective Total Hip Replacement continue their long-running dialogue with West African musicianship, delivering a track that sits confidently between highlife, soul, and modern pop. Recorded in Accra and featuring Ghanaian artists Nsoroma and Kwame Yeboah, the single reflects the band’s hands-on, collaborative approach—rooted not just in sonic borrowing but in sustained musical exchange.
“Rewind” is built on a mid-tempo groove that combines tight brass arrangements, melodic guitar lines and layered vocals. Nsoroma’s lead brings a smooth, melodic presence to the track, while Yeboah—known for his work with Pat Thomas and Kwashibu Area Band—adds depth and subtle rhythmic detail shaped by decades of highlife experience. The result is a polished, upbeat track that remains grounded in live instrumentation and clear musical dialogue between collaborators.
Total Hip Replacement, a seven-piece group based in Denmark, has spent the past few years developing cross-cultural projects with musicians in Ghana. Their sound blends analogue warmth with electronic elements, often shaped by influences from funk, reggae, soul, and global dance music. Rather than approaching these collaborations as one-off fusions, the band works from sustained exchange—both live and in the studio—creating music that reflects a shared process and an ongoing conversation between musical traditions.
“Rewind” also coincides with the launch of an extensive European tour for Total Hip Replacement. This summer and early autumn, the group will perform across Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, and beyond, with a strong UK leg including dates at The Cluny in Newcastle (10 September), Bossaphonik in Oxford (12 September), The Jam Jar in Bristol (13 September), and REinsTate in London (14 September).
