“Skin real, don’t dare, trying to make a rule here.” On “Run,” Malaka answer back anyone who’s ever tried to define them on somebody else’s terms. The song sits second on Mang, the second EP from Guadeloupe-born sisters Laurina Moïsa and Sacha Moïsa, released 14 November 2025 on Green Piste Records.
“My social power is weak,” opens the first verse, tracing a spiral of frustration, disconnection and a stutter that leaves the body behind. A rehearsed smile holds until it doesn’t, and the verse ends in tears and prayer. Then the track sharpens: a biting, hip-hop-inflected patter takes over, frontal and wound tight, as the sisters put their own mixed Guadeloupean and French heritage on the table. “My ideas come from a blood running for long, too strong,” the second verse insists, before warning off anyone still pushing: “you might upset the roots, run.”
That mixed inheritance runs back to Guadeloupe, which Laurina and Sacha left as small children for mainland France, raised at home on zouk and Creole music, with a father on percussion and a mother working as a painter. A trip back to the archipelago last year reshaped the whole EP, pulling the sisters toward Creole tradition, afrobeat, soul and hip-hop inflected urban sounds sung across French, English and Creole. Percussionist Timothé Faure, who joined the sisters after they met him busking on the streets of Clermont-Ferrand, plays alongside Hadrien Mabilat‘s bass, guitar and keyboards and Nathan Pinel‘s drums; Mabilat and Mathias Chaumet mixed the track, and Yves Roussel handled mastering.
