In our new podcast series, we’ve chosen to focus on who provide us with the precious “raw material” for our listenings and features: quality new music!
We are talking about those heroes who decided to launch, nurture and cultivate a record label (better if with an ‘independent’ in front of it). As the title suggests, Listen to the Label is our way to pay them a well-deserved tribute, disclosing and recognizing their invaluable work and letting them introduce it with words and tunes.
The fourth instalment of our Listen to the Label takes a trip to Argentina and focuses its attention on one of the most influential Latin American labels, ZZK Records.
Since 2006, ZZK and its founder Grant C. Dull (also known as El G) are helping to forge the so-called Nu LatAm sound, breathing new life into the traditional music styles of the region and remodelling them into new forms like digital cumbia, digital folklore and Andean step.
Since its first release (ZZK Sound Vol. 1: Cumbia Digital), ZZK Records has supported the work and career of dozen of musicians, among them Nicola Cruz, Chancha Via Circuito, La Yegros, El Remólon and King Coya. In her/his very own way, each of those artists has eventually shaped a new approach to Latin America traditions, so it was a no brainer to make the ZZK family the protagonist of the new episode of Listen to the Label.
