French-Chilean band Ajimsa has released their new single “Gardiens de la Terre” on the 10th of January, a tribute to environmental activists who have lost their lives protecting the planet.
Ajimsa’s music combines Latin American folk, Afro-Latin rhythms, and Middle Eastern melodies with prog rock influences. Their songs feature lyrics in French, Spanish, and English, focusing on nature, empathy, and indigenous cultures.
The quintet, currently based in France, was formed in Santiago de Chile by its two founders: French vocalist/keyboardist/accordionist Julie Gaye and Chilean guitarist/composer Cristian Torres. They are joined by Paloma Rivera on violin, David Briceño (also of kalimarimba) on bass, and Samuel Álvarez (formerly of La Mano Ajena) on drums. Occasionally, they are accompanied by Joel Viera on saxophone.
With multiple albums and tours in Chile, Mexico, France, and Europe, Ajimsa is set to release their new EP Rayün in Spring 2025.
