Daily Discovery: Soothsayers – Love Will Find A Way

“Love Will Find A Way” marks the latest chapter in Soothsayers’ long partnership with Wah Wah 45s, taken from their new album Fly Higher. Formed in London in 1998 by Idris Rahman and Robin Hopcraft, the group have carved out a space where reggae, dub, afrobeat and jazz meet, building a catalogue that includes Tradition and We Are Many alongside countless EPs and collaborations.

This single brings forward vocalists Maia Avery and Akin Soul. Both first appeared in Youthsayers, the South London project founded by the band in 2016 to support young musicians, and their presence here affirms Soothsayers’ commitment to sustaining that continuum. The track positions their voices in dialogue: Avery’s clarity cutting through, Akin’s baritone anchoring, their exchanges shifting between unison and counterpoint.

Mixed in São Paulo by lond-time collaborator Victor Rice, the production hinges on a steppers rhythm, bassline circling steadily against sharply defined drums. Victor Rice pushes the bassline upfront, its round tone circling without break, while the snare snaps dry against the offbeat guitar. Reverb is applied sparingly — a delay tail catching only the last word of a phrase — so the vocals remain at the surface rather than sinking into the mix.

“Love Will Find A Way” also highlights how Soothsayers function as a community as much as a band. By drawing Youthsayers graduates into their studio work, they turn mentorship into collaboration and extend their sound across generations. With Fly Higher released on vinyl and Bandcamp, the single fixes that connection in the catalogue, showing how new voices shape the sound of a group three decades in.

The release is followed by UK shows at Mount Pleasant Eco Park, Porthtowan (10/10), The Jam Jar, Bristol (11/10), Brudenell Social Club, Leeds (24/10), The Vale, Mossley (25/10), Henry Ward Hall, Hastings (08/11), Fox & Firkin, London (12/12), and Oxford Live Lounge (19/12).
