Anmol Mohara grew up in Nepal, where his ancestors played Panche Baaja, the ceremonial ensemble of five instruments, dhol, shehnai, karnal, tyamko and jhyali, heard at weddings and festivals for generations. He spoke late as a child, found words difficult, and understood the world better through rhythm. “A Rhythmic Guy” is that story, told in second person, as if Mohara is singing it to himself.
This live cut comes from Mohara’s headline at Jazz In The Round at The Cockpit on 27 October 2025, with Tereza Catarov on vocals, Simeon May on flute, Dan Fawcett on guitar, Cody Moss on keys and Rory Hudson on bass. Catarov sings tabla bols on the chorus, “Dha dha te te dha dha tin na”, percussion syllables that Mohara built the whole hook around. The track appears on his debut album Across The Sea, which sets his madal, nagara and tabla inside a London jazz framework, with Nitin Sawhney and Trilok Gurtu in the background.
