Bristol’s riotous seven-piece Ushti Baba return this weekend with the launch of their new album Flora, Fauna, Fight & Feast, bringing their storm of hybrid folk back to the stage in full force. Tomorrow at London’s Jamboree and Saturday at Bristol’s Jam Jar, the band open a new chapter in their decade-long story of resistance, celebration, and collective rhythm-making.
With fiddles, accordions, trumpets and beatbox driving the sound, Ushti Baba’s live show unites the traditions of street and festival culture into one furious, dance-centred expression. Flora, Fauna, Fight & Feast expands on the raw acoustic rave energy that defined their 2019 EP A Class Issue, weaving pan-European folk melodies through sharp political edge and spontaneous ensemble interplay.
On stage, Simon Alexander’s trumpet cuts through the rhythmic drive of Jack Salt’s beatbox, while Jassy Powles’ accordion and Ursula Billington’s violin pull the melodies in unexpected directions. The result is both tight and unruly, turning folk into something communal and electric.
Tomorrow’s London date is part of the 2025 Bloomsbury Festival, joined by Athens-born urban folk group Rebettingham, who channel the grit and romance of Greece’s rebetiko underworld. Together, they frame two nights of insurgent, communal folk built for movement, solidarity and release.
