Daily Discovery: Marcus Gad – For All

Roots reggae singer Marcus Gad built his fifth album around the Kanak custom of his home island, New Caledonia, where communities share what the land provides. The title track “For All” puts that straight into its hook, changing a single word across one line: he chants “it a go shine for all” for the sun, then “it a go fall on all” for the rain. The sun and the rain reach everyone, and nobody owns either.

The singe marks the first time Gad unites his distinct recording frameworks, combining the organic instrumentation of his live band Tribe with the electronic engineering of producer Tamal. Tribe lays down a slow, steady one-drop riddim guided by Franck Paulin‘s organ work and a full brass section, while Tamal handles the final mix and digital layers.

Out on 19 June through Easy Star Records and Big Scoop Records,, For All is Gad’s first album in three years.
