Daily Discovery: KOOB – Therapist

Berlin-based composer and vocalist KOOB returns with “Therapist”, the lead single from her upcoming album Off Head, out 7 June. Written during a disorienting S-Bahn breakdown and sparked by a surreal cartoon elephant in an ad, the track captures the weight of urban anxiety in real time. KOOB calls it “ADHD jazz”—a restless, fragmented piece marked by abrupt tempo shifts, jagged rhythms, and lyrical swings between defiance and fragility.

Recorded live in Berlin with Lenny Rehm (drums), Oto Gvardjančič (piano, synth), Seth Sjöström (bass), and Jarrah Dhyan (guitar), the track balances improvisational tension with structural precision. KOOB’s voice is central—raw, steady, and emotionally exposed—while Berlin artist Wolle plays the role of the therapist, delivering calm, detached lines that contrast KOOB’s volatility.

The visualiser, shot at the Music of Casette Mansion, mirrors the song’s stark intimacy: two people in a bare room, locked in emotional standoff. Originally from Minsk, and shaped by the political unrest of 2020, KOOB brings that intensity into her Berlin-based work. “Therapist” sits in discomfort with unflinching clarity.
