Daily Discovery: Jorge A. González – Yo Canto Por

“Yo Canto Por” is the latest single by Jorge A. González, a Monterrey-born musician now based in Mexico City. After years performing in different bands and working as a session player, he began recording solo material from home, developing a direct and personal sound.

Influenced by Latin folk, nueva canción, jazz and rock, the track reflects González’s focus on songs where message and form remain inseparable. Its sound is simple and close, shaped by the home-recording process and centred on the voice.

González is also a member of El Secreto del Alfajor with Nicolás Casado, where they developed the Grifolk sound, combining folk instruments such as mandolin, charango and banjolele with stylophone, synthesiser, percussion, rock and jazz.

The lyrics of “Yo Canto Por” express gratitude and inheritance. González links his voice to wind, flame and endurance, then extends the dedication “a los mares, a las tierras, al planeta entero.” The repeated line “yo canto porque quiero, canto porque puedo” defines the act as will and capacity: singing as continuation and choice.

“Yo Canto Por” follows “Todo En Su Lugar,” the first single from his forthcoming home-recorded album.
