The Belgian Jamaican Jazz Orchestra is back with their latest EP, All For A Reason, featuring the standout single “Sweet & Tender.” Released on the 8th of January by Zephyrus Records, this EP showcases the musicianship and compositions of guitarist Wouter Rosseel, known for his work with Pura Vida and Lee Scratch Perry. His work draw inspiration from Django Reinhardt and the Jamaican music of the 60s and 70s.
Wouter Rosseel shares his thoughts on the EP: “The five tracks encapsulate a challenging period in my life from 2020 to 2022. Music became a source of healing and inspiration, breathing life into these tunes. They were destined to exist, much like many aspects of life… it’s ‘All For A Reason.”
The orchestra skilfully intertwines Jamaican reggae and jazz influences, exploring the convergence of these genres. Drawing inspiration from ska legends like Ernest Ranglin, Monty Alexander, and The Skatalites, they blend rocksteady rhythms with swing jazz and reggae’s improvisational spirit. This approach allows each musician to shine, with straightforward rhythms creating space for creativity.
