Kuttune, led by percussionist and vocalist Nerea Quincoces Ochoa, is a folk band that combines Basque music with influences from around the world. At the core of the band’s musical approach lies a journey from their own cultural roots, where traditional melodies like jotas, arin-arines, or rumbas evolve into a fusion of diverse rhythms spanning from the northwest of Africa to the Middle East and the vibrant Caribbean beats of Latin America.
Their musical explorations are based on various sources, such as archives and recordings including The Soinuenea Fundazioa, The Joaquín Díaz Foundation, and The Alan Lomax Archive.
With 10 members from diverse musical backgrounds, Kuttune delivers a unique and engaging performance that explores their roots and celebrates global musical traditions.
Their single, “Zer Ote Da?” explores themes of heritage, ancestry, and the passage of time. With references to nature, folklore, and storytelling, the song reflects on the legacy of our ancestors and the enduring essence of our identity.
