The Jazz Cafe
After two years away, the Mexican Institute of Sound (M.I.S.) returns to the Jazz Cafe for a massive Mexican Independence Day fiesta!
On Friday 11 September, Grammy-winning mastermind Camilo Lara brings his legendary full-band show to Camden for one night only—a rare chance to witness one of the most influential figures in Latin American culture. Widely regarded as the pioneer of the Mexican electronica movement, Camilo Lara doesn’t just play music; he creates a “playful, futuristic vision” of Mexico City. This high-octane performance is a true celebration of heritage; whether it’s his trademark blend of Cumbia, Cha-Cha-Cha, and Mariachi or his cutting-edge electronic beats, M.I.S. represents the irresistible pulse of the Mexican Jones.
London holds a special place in the M.I.S. story. It was here that Lara’s Mexrrissey project debuted, leading to the first-ever Mexican record to hit the UK charts. Now, he returns to the Jazz Cafe to deliver what The Word calls “probably the most fun you can have without removing your poncho.” Expect a fierce combination of “energetically proud Mexican flavours” (Clash) and the kind of “frazzled mariachi” energy that Dazed & Confused calls “amazing.”
DJ Gypsy Box will be warming up the dancefloor for the best Mexican Independence Day celebration in town! Viva Mexico!
