Two hours of new releases ahead, crossing borders and timelines where local roots meet global sound. From heavy basslines to field recordings and fresh interpretations of tradition, all handpicked for this week’s trip.

From the Caribbean to the Levant, Rhythm Passport Presents #54 gathers new and upcoming releases spanning reggae, afrobeat, maloya, highlife, hip-hop, and global jazz. Alborosie opens with “Trench Town Legend” ahead of his album Nine Mile on VP and Greensleeves, while Antibalas strip afrobeat to its essence on “La Ceiba” for Daptone. Réunion’s Saodaj preview Lodèr la vi; Meklit returns on Smithsonian Folkways with “Lefeqer Enegeza”; and Nightmares On Wax joins Yasiin Bey on “Bang Bien”, blending Leeds’ electronic legacy with Brooklyn lyricism on Warp Records.

Sarathy Korwar brings intricate percussion and Indian rhythmic cycles into modern jazz with “We Take Things for Granted”, while Soothsayers, Dub Inc, and Skarra Mucci with Manudigital carry the reggae and dub thread forward. Ibibio Sound Machine team up with Village Cuts on “Anyone Like You”, bridging London’s live Afro-funk and club production scenes with genuine vitality. From Puerto Rico, iLe revisits the classic bolero “Si te contara”, part of her project Como Las Canto Yo, recorded with producer Ismael Cancel and celebrating the depth of Latin songcraft. Kazdoura reinterpret Arabic melodies through a Montréal lens on “Hmool El Safar”, and Rust, a Lebanese-Syrian duo, close with “Leil” from Fake Lines: Sono Levant, a non-profit compilation supporting the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature and linking artists from across the region through sound and solidarity.

And that’s only part of it! The full episode features more than two dozen tracks from across five continents, tracing new directions in global rhythm, from roots reggae and African jazz to Latin soul, hip-hop, and experimental traditions in between.
