Vangelis Vrachnos Quartet‘s new single “Efterpi” is part of their debut album Astrografia, released on the 24th of January, via PKmusik. The track features Vrachnos on double bass, James Wylie on alto saxophone and kamancheh, Thomas Meleteas on oud, and George Klountzos on drums.
“Efterpi” introduces the central themes of Astrografia, embodying Vrachnos’ concept of the “Music of the Celestial Spheres,” a self-invented myth that unfolds throughout the album’s eight original compositions. Expanding on the ideas explored in the single, the album delves into cosmic and personal reflection, weaving intricate musical interplay with the organic warmth of acoustic instruments.
A rising figure in the European jazz scene, Vangelis Vrachnos has honed his craft through studies at Codarts Academy in Rotterdam and collaborations with renowned musicians across jazz and traditional music circles. Also known for projects like the Yako Trio and Mordana, Astrografia marks his first personal quartet and a bold step into storytelling through sound.
