Train To Roots, one of Italy’s leading reggae bands, have teamed up with Sicilian reggae group Shakalab for their new single “Gherreros,” released on the 6th of February. The song, which translates to “warriors,” brings together Sardinian and Sicilian dialects alongside English and Italian, blending cultural pride with a powerful message of unity. The track is a call for solidarity, with a mix of classic reggae rhythms, folk influences from both regions, and a rousing anthem-like energy.
Formed in 2004 in Sardinia, Train To Roots have built a reputation for their energetic live performances and socially conscious lyrics. Known for songs like “Is Not a Crime,” they have consistently used reggae as a platform to address important social issues. Over the years, they’ve released several well-regarded albums and have become an influential force in the Italian reggae scene, pushing the genre’s boundaries and incorporating regional sounds into their music.
Shakalab, a collective of four singers from Sicily, bring their unique blend of reggae and hip-hop influences to the collaboration. Their music combines roots reggae with urban beats and reflects their Sicilian roots and social commentary. Through “Gherreros,” both bands effectively combine reggae with regional influences, showcasing their ability to merge different musical styles and languages. The result is a powerful track that emphasises unity and solidarity.
“Gherreros” is now available on all digital platforms via Roble Records. The single is supported by an ongoing European tour, with upcoming performances in cities such as London, and Manchester.
