Daily Discovery: Tema Due (Nicola Conte – Nico Lahs) – La Danse de L’Esprit (feat. Lalin St. Juste)

With “La Danse de L’Esprit,” Italian musicians and producers Nicola Conte and Nico Lahs—working together under the name Tema Due—offer a deep, slow-burning blend of soulful house, spiritual jazz and Afro-Latin grooves. It’s the lead track from their debut EP1 on Schema Records, and features the gently luminous vocals of Haitian-American singer Lalin St. Juste, known for her work with future-soul group The Seshen.

Conte and Lahs are seasoned instrumentalists and selectors with a long-standing commitment to rhythmically rich, jazz-informed music. Conte is a guitarist, composer and longtime Schema figurehead whose work draws on bossa nova, modal jazz and afro-funk. Lahs, meanwhile, brings a club-focused sensibility shaped by years of digging into classic house, Detroit techno and jazz-funk—both in the booth and in the studio.

“La Danse de L’Esprit” sits comfortably between the club and the concert hall. Its warm, hand-played percussion, earthy basslines and subtly layered keys create a hypnotic, head-nodding pulse, while St. Juste’s voice brings soulful depth and human touch. The result is a refined, quietly powerful track that reflects the duo’s deep musical roots and global listening habits.
