Daily Discovery: Soothsayers – Love Is Still The Answer

Soothsayers release “Love Is Still the Answer,” the second single from Fly Higher, their eleventh studio album and third with Wah Wah 45s. Recorded at the group’s Brixton studio, the track continues their long-running dialogue between dub, afrobeat, and roots reggae, here arranged in a stripped-down afro-soul format. A steady bass pulse underpins light percussion, close-miked horns, and vocal harmonies shaped by Nyabinghi phrasing.

Julia Biel leads the track with lyrics built from short melodic lines, supported by subtle layers of harmony and minimalist instrumentation. The arrangement avoids effects and refrain, holding instead to slow rhythmic motion and tonal warmth.

Active since the late 1990s, Soothsayers have refined a style rooted in South London’s live scene and studio tradition. Fly Higher, out September on vinyl and Bandcamp only, returns to that foundation with a focus on ensemble interplay, deliberate restraint, and message-led songwriting.
