Daily Discovery: Söndörgö – Tonči (Live Performance Video)

“Tonči (Live)” is a blazing tamburica dance tune from Hungarian ensemble Söndörgő, released on 13 August via GroundUP Music. Formed in 1995 in Szentendre and centred on the Eredics family — Áron, Benjamin, Salamon, and Dávid — together with bassist Ábel Dénes, the group has long specialised in the tamburica traditions of South Slav communities in Hungary.

A song they have played for many years, “Tonči” places the tamburica at the front of the mix, its rapid strums and resonant tone propelling the kolo dance metre with circular intensity. Captured in concert, the performance translates a long-standing repertoire piece into a live celebration, the title honouring V. Kovács Antal, known as Tonči, whose recordings provided a foundation for the band’s early learning.

The track leads into Söndörgő XXX, due on 4 September 2025, a collection combining new studio recordings with revived favourites and live material that mark three decades of activity.
