Santi & Tuğçe have a name for the sound of “En El Silencio”: Jellyfish Techno. Santi coined it after their set at Fusion Festival in summer 2025, where illuminated umbrellas shaped like jellyfish float over the dance floors. He wrote the first version of the track the following day. When Tuğçe heard it, she pictured astronauts looking back at Earth from space, an image that set off her lyric.
Sung in Spanish, the lyric moves between a distant future the world has already forgotten and a past that never came to be. The “you” she addresses sounds like the planet itself, “agua y tierra”, water and earth split apart in the dark. Against that, the chorus stays in the present: “el silencio hoy me encontró”, silence found me today. When it returns, “sin prisa”, in no hurry, becomes “sin tiempo”, outside of time.
Tuğçe first sang those words live at Babylon in Istanbul in March, with Pier Luigi Salami on piano and Jonathan Strauch on saxophone and percussion. Isa Kurt’s film of that night is the song’s video. The arrangement eventually changed on the road. Through the months of their Nuestra Tierra tour, the piano solos and saxophone lines gave way to guitars and marimbas over a sparer organic house groove. Back in Berlin, the duo finished the track at Studio A.
Berlin became home after many years in the United States, where the two met more than a decade ago. Santi comes from Asunción in Paraguay and trained in composition and computer science; Tuğçe Kurtiş comes from Istanbul and studied jazz singing. Their forthcoming album Memories from the Future started with “En El Silencio”, the first piece they wrote for it. In the album’s story the song comes last, though they chose to release it first, putting it out themselves on 21 August.
They take it on tour in spring 2027, from Zurich on 22 April to Grounds in Rotterdam on 30 May, through Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, with a Berlin show at Säälchen on 15 May.
