Daily Discovery: Sada – Negrita

“Negrita” by Miami-based Cuban-Beninese singer/songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sada Walkiria is a distinctive track that reinterprets traditional lullabies through a fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms and Latin jazz.

Her work is a fusion of rich percussion, intricate string arrangements, and emotive vocals, drawing from her classical training and her passion for Afro-Cuban traditions. The result is a dynamic and textured sound.

Sada began her musical career in 2002, focusing initially on the cello. By 2004, she had won the First Prize at the Amadeo Roldan Provincial Cello Competition. Her talents also earned her third place at the National Cuban String Competition UNEAC, allowing her to perform as a soloist at the classical music festival in Matanzas with the local orchestra.

Sada’s performances have been recognised internationally, sharing stages with renowned musicians and ensembles such as Wynton Marsalis, the New World Symphony Orchestra, the Borodin Quartet, and Yehuda Hanani.
