De Mar y Río, a marimba ensemble rooted in Cali yet deeply connected to the diverse rhythms of Colombia’s Pacific coast, brought their vibrant sound to the Premios Turismo Colombia. Performing as a quintet, they delivered a dynamic performance with marimba, bombo, cununos, and powerful vocal harmonies, capturing the essence of Pacific musical traditions.
Founded in 2018 by actor, lawyer, and cultural promoter Felipe Amú, the group emerged from Escuela Canalón, the cultural incubator led by renowned singer Nidia Góngora.
Their debut album, Bailen y Gocen (2023), is a vibrant exploration of Pacific rhythms like bunde, juga, currulao, and rumba. Released under Palenque Records, the album was recorded at Icesi University, mixed by Diego Gómez (Discos Pacífico), and mastered in the U.S. by Jessica Thompson. With six tracks that draw from ancestral stories, daily life, and the natural world of the Pacific Coast of Colombia, Bailen y Gocen is a celebration of the culture and resilience of their communities, capturing the sounds of the river, the sea, and the people who live between them.
