Daily Discovery: Queenstown Collective – Unit 99 (feat. Poppy Daniels)

London-based Queenstown Collective, a spiritual groove jazz ensemble, has unveiled their latest single, “Unit 99,” featuring vocalist Poppy Daniels. Released on 12 March 2025, the track showcases the collective’s distinctive fusion of jazz improvisation with soulful vocals.

“Unit 99” is the second release from Queenstown Collective, following their debut track, “The Temple,” which was released in January 2025. The single was launched with a live performance at PizzaExpress Live, marking a significant milestone in the collective’s musical journey.

Formed in early 2023, Queenstown Collective emerged from a vibrant jam session in Brixton. The ensemble comprises drummer and leader James Morgan, keyboardist Eddie Lee, saxophonist James Akers, guitarist Tjoe Man Cheung, and bassist James Wilson. Each member brings a wealth of experience, having collaborated with artists such as King Krule, Joe Armon-Jones, Cherise, Mansur Brown, and Levitation Orchestra. Their music draws inspiration from influences like Yussef Dayes, Kamasi Washington, Alice Coltrane, and Fela Kuti.

Poppy Daniels, also a London native, adds depth to “Unit 99,” enhancing the track’s emotive and dynamic range. She is known for her evocative vocal style and versatility across genres including jazz, hip-hop, and Latin music. Her debut single, “Boundaries,” also released in March, showcases her unique blend of jazz and contemporary influences.
