British singer-songwriter Piers Faccini and Malian kora master Ballaké Sissoko have released “One Half of a Dream,” the first single from their upcoming album Our Calling, out on 14th February via No Format!.
The track blends Faccini’s folk-inspired vocals and reflective lyrics with Sissoko’s intricate kora melodies, creating a dialogue between English folk, blues, and West African Mandingue tradition. With a sparse, acoustic arrangement, the song highlights the natural interplay between voice, guitar, and kora. The production is minimal, focusing on the organic connection between the two musicians.
Faccini and Sissoko first met at Label Bleu in the early 2000s, sparking a creative partnership that has evolved over two decades. Sissoko contributed to Faccini’s 2005 album Tearing Sky, and in 2020, Faccini lent his voice to “Kadidja” on Sissoko’s acclaimed album Djourou. Their collaboration deepened under No Format!, culminating in Our Calling, their first full-length project together. Recorded in Faccini’s studio in the South of France, the album further explores the fusion of Mandé traditions and folk songwriting.
