Daily Discovery: Peyoti For President – You Are The Revolution

Released on 25 April to mark the anniversary of the Portuguese Carnation Revolution, Peyoti for President returns with “You Are The Revolution”, a rhythmically taut single blending Latin percussion, offbeat guitar rhythms, bursts of trumpet, and spoken-word delivery. The track is concise and minimal, constructed to foreground its message, deliberate in both form and content.

Vocals and guitar come from Peyoti, who also handled composition, recording, mixing, and editing. Marc Mennigmann contributes piano, synths and keyboards, alongside co-recording and mixing duties, and also created the cover artwork. Trumpet lines from Pedro Barroso punctuate the mix, while Josephine Nightingale, Ceci Meza, and Ale Melluso provide additional vocal layers that support without overwhelming the lead.

“You Are The Revolution” is built around a recurring lyrical refrain—“You are the revolution that you’ve been waiting for”—anchored in themes of self-determination, resistance to control, and ecological reconnection. The track moves between spoken word and song, touching on political gaslighting, state surveillance, and disillusionment with centralised power.

Over the years, Peyoti has taken his message to international stages, including Glastonbury, Colours of Ostrava, Rockwave, Sfinks, and Bestival, as well as supporting acts like Manu Chao, Gogol Bordello, Ozomatli, and Tinariwen. His approach is deliberately unaligned with the conventions of pop or genre-based music—more protest movement than market product.
