Sudanese artist MaMan releases “Bahary”, a song written with MazMars and named after the district north of Khartoum where both artists grew up. The track revisits that area as a real place and shared point of origin.
Born in Khartoum and now based in Cairo, MaMan began as a DJ and sound engineer before becoming a songwriter and producer. His early singles “Alright” and “Grow Fast” brought attention to Sudan’s developing Afro-Pop and rap scenes. In 2019 he released “Shammasi“, written during the country’s pro-democracy movement. The following projects, “Dafnino” (2024) and “Garmboza” (2025), continued that trajectory after his relocation from Sudan.
“Bahary” draws its rhythm from Sudanese popular music and reggae. The instrumental arrangement includes guitar, bass and percussion, with short repeating phrases creating a steady mid-tempo framework. MaMan sings in Arabic and English with a clear, close-mic vocal delivery. The production remains minimal, using repetition and contrast between the vocal parts to define the form.
The collaboration with MazMars links memory and locality without sentiment. Its title refers to the northern part of Khartoum but also to the personal and musical networks connecting Sudan and Egypt. Recorded in Cairo, the track continues MaMan’s work aligning Sudanese rhythmic language with Afro-Pop songwriting.
