Kosmo Sound and Imane Guemssy have released their new single, ‘Bacha Hamou’, from their upcoming EP Makasima, due out on 13 December 2024 via Zephyrus Records. This track merges the rich, spiritual rhythms of traditional Gnawa music with Kosmo Sound’s signature deep grooves and minimalist dub, crafting a sound that bridges centuries and continents.
The lineup includes Imane Guemssy on vocals and gimbri, with Kosmo Sound members Edmund Lauret and Cyriel Vandenabeele on guitars, Ambroos De Schepper on saxophone and bongos, Marius Couvreur on drums, Bos Debusscher on keys and percussion, and Mattias Geernaert on bass.
Formed in Ghent in 2016, Kosmo Sound is known for its rhythmic blend of dub grooves and jazz elements. Their debut EP was released last year on Zephyrus Records, showcasing their dynamic, danceable style. Imane Guemssy, a trailblazing female Gnawa musician from Casablanca, brings a unique voice to this traditionally male-dominated genre.
