Greedy people, nosy people and liars all get it in the neck on “MIND YER BIZNIZ”, the new single from Kabeaushé. It’s experimental electronic pop: stacked falsettos screech over heavy sub-bass and sharp drums, with short bursts of Bollywood film score cutting in and out. He tells the greedy to finish their own plate before reaching for his cake, and warns everyone else to keep quiet and be careful who they let in.
Kabeaushé is Kabochi Gitau, a Nairobi-born singer, rapper and producer who mixes pop, hip-hop and electronica, came up through the Nyege Nyege collective in Kampala and now lives in Berlin. His second album, KABEAUSHÉ PRESENTS: IGGY SWAGGERING UNGRATEFUL INCESSANT LITTLE PEEEAAAAAAA, came out in February, built around a fictional despot called Herr Iggy, with strings arranged by Rui Rodrigues. This self-released single drops the strings for bass, drums and voice, all written, produced and mixed by Gitau himself.
It came out four days before the second leg of his I.S.U.I.L.P. tour opened at La Maroquinerie in Paris. The tour runs through France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Germany, taking in Paradiso in Amsterdam and Monkey Week in El Puerto de Santa María, and ends in Nijmegen on 5 December.
