Daily Discovery: Groove Xanadu – Groove Xanadu

Paris-based Groove Xanadu refine their signature blend of funk, jazz, and Afro-groove with their latest self-titled single.

The project took shape in the winter of 2023-2024 when American singer-songwriter Michael D. Amitin, based in Paris, brought together musicians to explore new sounds. His country-blues roots fused with the jazz-funk stylings of Paul Sany (keys), Guillaume Perrin (guitar), Emmanuel Sunée (bass), and Baptiste Castets (drums), creating a rich, cross-genre sound.

“Groove Xanadu” builds on a syncopated bass riff and crisp drum backbeat, with Sany’s jazz-funk keyboard lines driving momentum. The track shifts between tight grooves and free-flowing improvisation, enhanced by warm analog production and afrobeat-inflected percussion. Balancing structured hooks with free-flowing jams, the track nods to Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters era while embracing the fusion energy of Snarky Puppy. Warm, analog-style production enhances its rich textures, making it both immersive and danceable.

Recorded at QDS Studio and refined at Submarine Studio in Paris with Michael Buyens and Isaackito, the song sets the tone for Groove Xanadu’s debut album, a vibrant fusion of funk, jazz, blues, and world influences.
