Daily Discovery: Ghetto Kumbé – Cardón Ft. Lido Pimienta & Henry Pimienta Pushaina

The sharp pluck of a Wayuu classical guitar opens “Cardón” before the bass drops and Afro-Caribbean percussions floods in. Ghetto Kumbé built the track around classical guitarist Henry Pimienta Pushaina and singer Lido Pimienta. Pushaina, a concert musician from Uribia, brings material from his Portafolio de Obras Wayuu para Guitarra, a project that translates ancestral Wayuu melodies to classical guitar. This pairs naturally with Lido Pimienta’s background; born in Barranquilla of mixed Afro-Colombian and Wayuu descent, she blends traditional rhythms like cumbia and bullerengue with synth-pop. Her high, clear vocal cuts straight through the percussion layers.

The lyric she wrote with Ghetto Kumbé’s Edgardo Garcés follows someone standing in a river at night, cold water over their feet, their sins going downstream with the current, praying the moon holds the frost back till morning. The chorus keeps returning to “Solo deja que la brisa arrastre todo consigo”, let the breeze carry everything away with it, and Pimienta’s voice delivers it each time like the decision has already been made. Co-produced with London’s The Busy Twist, the Afro-Caribbean percussion drives underneath while the vocal stays above it.

“Cardón” opens Cardones, the new Ghetto Kumbé album released on May 15, an eight-track record built around collaborations: Pimienta Pushaina also opens the album on “Wayakana”, while Nidia Gongora and Akilín appear on closing track “Belén”. In support of the LP, the Cardones Tour Europa 2026 runs through June and July, taking in Fusion Festival in Larz, Colours of Ostrava in Ostrava and Les Suds à Arles among the stops.
