Daily Discovery: Furmiga Dub – Mas Você Não Veio (feat. O Seu Zé Quer Coco!)

Released on 9 May via Kaxambu Records, “Mas Você Não Veio” brings together a powerful line-up of artists from Brazil’s northeast—Furmiga Dub, Presto do Coco, and Filosofino—alongside the respected traditional group Seu Zé Quer Coco. The track merges the earthy pulse of samba de coco with contemporary electronic textures, resulting in a production that feels both ceremonial and modern. The lyrics channel a message from Pomba Gira, an Afro-Brazilian spiritual figure often associated with love, desire, and feminine strength, giving the track a reflective yet emotionally charged core.

Furmiga Dub, the alias of Paraíba-born producer and multi-instrumentalist Fabiano Formiga, has been a key name in the electronic reimagining of northeastern Brazilian genres since 2011. His sound blends dub, bass music, and regional rhythms like ciranda and baião. On this track, he’s joined by Presto do Coco—a recognised master of popular culture in Paraíba—whose vocal delivery and rhythmic grounding are rooted in the coco de terreiro tradition. Filosofino, a rapper and poet from the same region, contributes verses shaped by jazz phrasing, soul aesthetics, and Afro-Northeastern oral storytelling, giving the track its lyrical momentum.

Together, they call the genre-crossing result Macumbarima—a mix of coco, rap, and dub that feels grounded in cultural history yet speaks fluently to the present. “Mas Você Não Veio” is both hypnotic and defiant, balancing spiritual weight with groove. Its nomination as a finalist at the 6th Paraíba Music Festival reflects both its artistic ambition and the growing visibility of projects that push beyond genre while remaining rooted in place-based traditions.
