Daily Discovery: Cisco Pema – Desilusión

“Desilusión” catches the moment an expectation loses its shape and reality takes over. It carries the weight of something that did not go as hoped, and Cisco Pema keeps it that way, without tipping into melodrama. The song moves past that first letdown into acceptance, the turn from expecting something of someone to understanding you needed to stop. It makes that process an intimate song about learning to let go.

An Argentine bassist, singer and producer, Pema grew up in Buenos Aires and was on stage from childhood. He moved to Austria for a jazz and improvisation diploma at the Bruckner University, worked as a bassist, composer and producer, then settled in Berlin, where he launched a solo career in 2016. His songs run South American forms through jazz harmony, with traditional and contemporary rhythms underneath.

His run of records takes in the self-titled Cisco Pema (2018), Otra realidad (2021) and Tres de Oro (2023), which turns towards rock and pop rock, alongside the 2017 EP Tu Casa Es Mi Casa, made with Munich reggae band Jamaram, that moves between Latin, reggae and dub.
