Adnan Joubran, a celebrated Palestinian oud player and composer known for his evocative musical compositions, introduces his latest single “Before & After.” This track incorporates ambient sounds from Gaza’s streets and mosques recorded prior to the recent conflict, plunging listeners into the daily realities of its residents and prompting reflection on the ongoing struggles in the region.
Directed by visual artist Seif Abdalla, the accompanying video combines poignant imagery with melancholic melodies, featuring Joubran on oud, Valentin Mussou on cello, and Omer Goktepeliler on Turkish tambur. The composition reflects themes of surveillance, oppression, and a yearning for freedom, while also offering a vision of hope and celebrating the resilient spirit of Gaza’s people.
“Reality is painful, but it is our duty as artists to express the pain and make it sound musical and artistic,” Joubran commented on the release.
