Keishera James was born in Kingston, raised in Brooklyn, and relocated to Berlin, where she has been recording roots reggae for over a decade. “Yuh Nah Ready” closes She Is Life, her five-track EP on Jon Moon‘s Yutman Records, out May 29th: five tracks built around live instrumentation and warm roots production, moving between lovers rock and conscious reggae.

“Yuh Nah Ready” is a live one-drop with organ and keys behind her lead vocal. It is a brush-off sung with a grin, a charming but unreliable suitor told he cannot keep up: “You nah ready for a girl like me.”

Hopeton Hibbert, eldest son of Toots Hibbert, plays bass on the track, one of his final recordings before he died in 2024, and Giuseppe “Big Finga” Coppola, who has drummed for Gentleman for twenty years, keeps the groove.
