Los Tre have been playing instrumental music in Athens since 2012, when guitarist Angelos Angelides, bassist Vassilis Papastamopoulos and drummer Leandros Fratnik set up as a jazz-funk trio in the middle of Greece’s debt crisis. “A Kala” comes from their sixth album, Taha Mu, by which point the band had grown into a quartet with percussionist Angelos Polychronou and pushed well past jazz-funk: electric and loose, built on grooves pulled from West Africa, Ethiopia and Greece, the guitar run through heavy fuzz.
The record was cut at Fabliquid Studio in early 2024 and mixed by Paul Stefanidis. Improvisation runs through everything they do, on record and on the Athens stages where they’ve built their name.
