Daily Discovery: Kilombo – Entre Sombras

Paraguayan-born, Montréal-based producer Kilombo cut his teeth in a squat without electricity or running water, building a production style from Afro-Indigenous rhythms, cumbia and Cuban rumba pushed through heavy electronic weight.

“Entre Sombras” is the latest example: nylon guitar over a deep electronic foundation, tribal rhythms and organic percussion driving the arrangement at an earthy, unhurried pace. Folktronica and downtempo are the coordinates, but the material is firmly Latin American. Drawing from the same well as Nicola Cruz, Chancha Via Circuito, and El Buho, Kilombo keeps that tradition alive in contemporary electronic music.
