Daily Discovery: Dubnine – Leave Us Alone (Reggae Uprising Mix)

Leave Us Alone (Reggae Uprising Mix)” is the latest release from Michael “Dubnine” Henry, a Birmingham producer and songwriter who produced the Grammy-nominated Steel Pulse album African Holocaust, worked with Damian Marley, and has written music for film, theatre and three BBC television series. The Reggae Uprising Mix takes the track into roots reggae territory, built on a steady one-drop rhythm with brass and dub processing running through the arrangement.

The song uses “Babylon” as a term for corporate power and digital surveillance. The lyric makes the argument plainly: “Not the colour or the creed / It’s those who have and those who need / Together we can free our humanity / Free ourselves with technology.” The refrain, “Just leave us alone / Babylon it’s your end of days”, repeats as a collective demand across the track. Five simultaneous videos were released alongside the track.

Henry came up through Afrikan Star, a roots reggae band that toured Europe with UB40 and supported Peter Tosh, before going on to form Mau Mau and eventually launching DT Records.

“Leave Us Alone” is out now on DT Records. You can stream and listen to the single via THIS LINK
