Recorded for RTP’s Em Casa d’Amália, the live take of Sérgio Onze’s “Sapatinhos” brings him into a room built around the spirit of Amália Rodrigues’ old gatherings. The format strips the performance down to voice, guitarra portuguesa, viola and viola baixo, giving the song a direct, stage-ready clarity.
Born in Seixal, Sérgio Onze won the Grande Noite do Fado in 2003, studied classical guitar at the Conservatório de Setúbal and built his path in Lisbon’s casas de fado. His route includes work with Jovens Vozes de Lisboa at Teatro São Carlos, Belém Art Fest and appearances at venues such as Campo Pequeno, CCB, Salão Preto e Prata and Tivoli, along with performances in Germany, France, Finland, Italy and Romania.
“Sapatinhos”, written and composed by Conan Osíris, is performed here with Rui Poço on guitarra portuguesa, Bernardo Saldanha on viola and Daniel Pinto on viola baixo. The piece sits outside the classic fado structure, yet Onze’s delivery lands firmly within the tradition, reflecting the way he often describes the song: a point where his musical and visual practices meet.
The single leads into NÓS, released in April 2024 by Museu do Fado/EGEAC and produced by Agir and Ricardo Ribeiro. The album brings together work by Conan Osíris, Joana Espadinha and Teresinha Landeiro, framed by fado as its core reference.
