“Dub by the River” signals the next chapter for Zentone, the collaboration between French dub pillars Zenzile and High Tone. The single stands as a deep dub, A reworking of their track “Riverside“, it locks into visceral bass, sharpened percussion, and spacious echoes: a dub shaped for both long-standing purists and today’s listeners.
Zentone first appeared in 2006 as a one-off meeting of two influential collectives, combining Zenzile’s organic grooves with High Tone’s electronic layers. Their return in 2021 for Zentone Chapter 2 featured vocalist Jolly Joseph on selected tracks. In 2025, Joseph takes a central role across the full album, transforming Zentone from side project into a fully fledged band. His voice threads through “Dub by the River” as both anchor and spectral presence, widening the scope of the mix.
The new album, titled Messenger, due 26 September on Jarring Effects and Wiser Records in vinyl, CD and digital formats, expands Zentone’s sound into collective experimentation, binding electronic textures to live-band density. A French tour follows, with announced shows from Tourcoing and Laval to Lyon, Bordeaux and Paris, placing the release firmly at the heart of the national dub calendar.
