Daily Discovery: Bunuru x Lova Lova – Punkutsi

Bunuru’s new single, “Punkutsi”, featuring Kinshasa’s genre-blending artist Lova Lova, merges the earthy tones of bamboo and metal instruments with electronic beats. Recorded across Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, France, and Italy, the track draws on influences from the Colombian Caribbean coast, North and Central Africa, creating rich layers of guitar melodies, live percussion, and dynamic soundscapes.

Since 2019, Bunuru, led by guitarist Fabián Morales (of La Makina del Karibe and Los Bulldozer), has been exploring the intersection of African, Latin American, Caribbean, and electronic music. Their self-titled debut album, released on the 7th of September via Polen Records, delves into global fusion music, featuring 11 tracks that blend the sounds of the Colombian Caribbean, North African Tuareg rhythms, and Congolese soukous.

The album transitions between atmospheric drones and airy, melodic compositions, enriched by counterpoint guitar harmonies, dynamic electronic beats, and vibrant live percussion. Bunuru collaborated with international talents such as Love Lokombé (Congo), Mauro Durante (Italy), and Cotito (Peru), bringing a rich, global perspective to the project.
