“Yirmane,” featured in Touki‘s 2024 album Plastic Man, reflects the unexpected partnership that originated from a chance busking encounter in the streets of Bath in 2007. Amadou Diagne from Senegal and French-American Cory Seznec first crossed paths on that spring day, leading to a collaboration influenced by West African, American, and Ethiopian musical traditions.
With vocals and percussion by Amadou, guitar by Cory, and cello by Marius Pibarot, the track showcases the Touki’s rich musical fusion. Drawing from Diagne’s griot heritage and Seznec’s diverse musical background, the song features intricate rhythms, soulful melodies, and thought-provoking lyrics.
