Vaak Stage 2023 (Day 2): A celebration of vibrant sounds from the Middle East and beyond

Presenting the Vaak Stage Festival, a two-weekend event in July. On Day 29 at Kings Place’s iconic ‘Hall One,’ experience a diverse lineup of acclaimed musicians and composers from the Middle East and beyond.

Featuring an exceptional all-female lineup, led by Mahan Mirarab, a virtuoso guitarist and composer from Vienna, with jazz musicians accompanying them. Performers include:

– Aida Shahghasemi: A Minneapolis-based musician and vocalist with Iranian roots. Aida’s academic focus on the cultural dimensions of Persian Classical Music and the challenges faced by Iranian female vocalists adds depth to her artistry.

– Basma Jabr: A Syrian-Austrian vocalist known for her soulful and expressive style.

– Elaha Soroor: An Afghan musician, vocalist, composer, and designer recognized for her powerful vocals and commitment to preserving and promoting Afghan music.

– Golnar Shahyar: An Iranian-Austrian musician and composer who skillfully blends traditional Iranian music with jazz and pop elements.

– Misagh Morady: An Iranian musician and composer who has collaborated with esteemed artists, including a notable performance at the Woman Life Freedom concert at the Royal Festival Hall.

– Mona Matbou Riahi: An Iranian-Austrian clarinet player and composer celebrated for her innovative fusion of classical and modern music.

The night concludes with Pouya Ehsaei, an electronic musician from Iran, joined by Golnar Shahyar and Mona Matbou Riahi. Experience his fusion of traditional Iranian music with experimental electronic sounds, defying genre restrictions.
