Review: Dub Colossus Soundsystem @ The Forge

The 19th of February was yet another night of great live music at Camden’s The Forge, which is fast becoming a standard affair for this venue. Dub Colossus Sound System were pretty much on the button from the get go providing a really up and rocking show. With a solid back line of the ‘boss’ Nick Dublah on guitar alongside percussion, electronics and bass plus intermittent live vocals and horns they certainly captured the audience and took them on a dubbed out mystic journey.

With a broad range of influences from the likes of The Specials, Nile Rodgers, Average White Band and Madness and a mix of styles such as reggae, Ethiopian, ska, funk and even drum and bass Dub Colossus makes for a pretty tight outfit with a unique sound. As soundsystem set-ups go (backing tracks with live performance superimposed) Dub Colossus has it nailed. It’s a shame that in this day and age promoters can’t always afford the full line-up of large-scale acts such as this, and it would be great to see them again soon with the full live ensemble.
