A few weeks after being named Italy’s electronic music capital, Turin is ready to unveil its most soulful side with one of our favourite music festivals: Jazz Re:Found. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this year’s festival presents an incredibly vast line-up that escapes any kind of strict definition.
Looking at the line-up, you’ll probably ask yourself whether it is a jazz, dance or experimental music festival. The answer is none and all: the magic thread is black music – its legacy, its present and its future evolution.
Jazz Re:Found kicks off on the last weekend of November, after two exciting preview dates in Milan – the gig a couple of weeks ago from legendary Brazilian fusion-jazz band Azymuth and the upcoming show on November 25th from West Coast six-string bass maestro Thundercat.
The festival forte is undoubtedly a well-balanced program – the balance between live gigs and the dance floor; tradition and innovation meet local and global.
Over four intense nights, Jazz Re:Found will bring together Cory Henry & the Funk Apostles‘ soulful gospel, Technoir, Italian funk-jazz institution James Senese & Napoli Centrale, Rhythm Section‘s founder Bradley Zero, drum ‘n’ bass legends Goldie and Roni Size, as well as Jameszoo‘s experimental “computer jazz”. Italian dub-Ska band Casino Royale will also wow the crowd – concluding with a glorious night where composers Chassol and Moses Boyd will perform alongside dancefloor masters Motor City Drum Ensemble, Nicky Siano, Peggy Gou and Tama Sumo.
Here’s a playlist to get you ready while you’re booking your tickets to Italy’s former capital – a gentle reminder that you’re doing the right thing.
