Mix: Radio Mukambo #560 – Decolonizing Grooves

This week Radio Mukambo fills an hour of music with just four tracks.

Of course Fela Kuti has something to do with it, the master of 20 minute songs! But we start with a masterpiece by African reggae legend Alpha Blondy featuring African intellectuals Cheikh Anta Diop, Aminata Traoré & Fatou Diome talking about epistemicide: the killing, silencing, annihilation or devaluing of a knowledge system.

Back to the Black President, Fela Kuti, who was one of the first to decolonize the minds through music. We listen to his collaboration with American vibraphonist/vocalist Roy Ayers and two Fela Kuti covers by Latin bands: the all-female all-black Funmilayo Afrobeat Orquestra from São Paulo (Brazil) and Newen Afrobeat from Santiago (Chile).
