Today, we have the pleasure of introducing you to a brand-new project coming from Italy. No worries, regardless of all the hype and glitter, we are not talking about anything Eurovision-related, but a far more refined and far-reaching work released by Sicilian born-and-bred DJ and producer Massimo Napoli, better known as Galathea.
His debut LP, titled with the same name and released by Italian jazzy label Space Echo Records on June 18, is all about Mediterranean cultures, sounds and scents.
From one shore of the Basin to the other, Galathea sails the soundwaves connecting Italy to Northern Africa and the Middle East to Greece.
It’s 11 chapters of a sunshiny and aromatic blending of balmy spiritual jazz, seasoned blues, citrusy South Italian funk and sweet-honeyed Afro-Caribbean dub reflecting the all-embracing influences driving Massimo’s musical vision and remarkable guest musicians participating in the recordings.
To give you an even better perspective over Galathea and the inspiration behind it, we asked Massimo to leave the studio for a while and go back to his first love of DJing, so as to compile a mix summing up his debut’s album soul.
