Daily Discovery: Zar Electrik – Babord

Marseille-based trio Zar Electrik has released “Babord,” the first glimpse of their upcoming album, co-produced with Jarring Effects and Lamastrock. Dropped on the 29th of November, the track follows their debut EP Hawa, offering a deeper dive into the group’s unique fusion of North African traditions and cutting-edge electronic elements.

“Babord” tells the story of an immigrant’s journey from Africa to Marseille, weaving together themes of hardship, hope, and perseverance. Its poetic lyrics and layered melodies convey the bittersweet experience of leaving behind a familiar world while navigating the uncertainties of a new beginning. The single delves into the complex dynamics of migration and the search for identity.

Musically, “Babord” embodies Zar Electrik’s signature fusion of cultures. Anass Zine’s haunting vocals, shaped by Maghrebi traditions and supported by the oud and gumbri, intertwine with Arthur Péneau’s kora, enriched with experimental effects. Together with producer Did Miosine’s mastery of electronic beats and textures, the trio creates a vibrant, genre-defying soundscape.
