Daily Discovery: Winston McAnuff – Bubble

“Bubble” marks the return of Winston McAnuff, one of Jamaica’s most distinctive reggae voices, in a new collaboration produced by the Paris-based label and studio Tattooin Beat. Recorded with members of Inna de Yard, the single gathers Dwight Pinkney, Kush McAnuff, DelroyWormbassNevin, Keith Rowe, FranklynBubblaWaul, Loïc Landois, and Hélio Eger.

Built around the hand-drummed cadence of Nyabinghi percussion, “Bubble” which was released on released on 3 October, carries McAnuff’s deep, melodic voice across a framework of bass, clavinet, and piano. McAnuff’s deep, melodic tone moves through a grounded arrangement of bass, clavinet, and piano, with harmonica lines and subtle echo effects adding light and movement. His lyric “Get out of the bubble, don’t go searching for no trouble” stands as a clear call to awareness and renewal, expressed through rhythm, not rhetoric.

The dub version, mixed at Tattooin Beat’s Paris studio, opens a second dimension, stretching the beat and letting each instrument resonate in full. Together they form a piece that connects Jamaica’s roots tradition with France’s contemporary reggae production.

“Bubble” reflects McAnuff’s lifelong connection to roots reggae as a living form. It’s calm, direct, and unmistakably his. Built on wisdom, rhythm, and presence.
