Renowned Senegalese kora master Seckou Keita has teamed up with the BBC Concert Orchestra to present his latest project, African Rhapsodies, scheduled for release on May 26th.
The project, created with London-based Italian composer, arranger and bass player Davide Mantovani, is a celebration of Africa’s 22-stringed harp, the kora and “explores the extraordinary voyages to and from Senegal”. African Rhapsodies also features collaborations with South African cellist and singer AbelSelaocoe and Gambian percussionist and kora player Suntou Susso.
The project, which was made possible through a partnership with the BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Radio 3, Orchestre National de Bretagne, Lakeside Arts Centre, The University of Nottingham, and PRS Foundation’s Composers’ Fund, will be published by Swiss classical music record label Claves Records.
