Daily Discovery: Sirintip – Plastic Bird feat. Alex Hahn (Official Music Video)

“Plastic Bird” is the title of the new single and music video released by Sirintip, a Bangkok-born, New York-based Swedish-Thai experimental trilingual singer and composer.

The music video of the single was funded by the New York Foundation for the Arts and is part of Sirintip’s sophomore release, carbon (Ropeadope), which features 13 tracks of original music aimed at starting a new kind of conversation around climate action.

The videoclip features found instruments such as plastic water jugs transformed into percussion and processed recordings from backyard wildlife, and even sand. The song itself enjoys the participation of Alex Hahn on flute, and the album as a whole features contributions from visionary artists such as Michael League on bass, Nolan Byrd on drums and plastic trash, and Daniel Migdal on violin and viola.

carbon is a groundbreaking effort that aims to bring environmental issues to the forefront through music. It is indeed an interdisciplinary work, bonding visual art and moving image, as well as audio-visual installation, and includes two data-driven songs to create melodic compositions, “1.5” and “aqi.

“1.5” represents the planet’s rising temperature from 1880 to 2012, while “aqi” uses air pollution data to create dissonant or harmonious intervals.`

To release carbon, the American indie label Ropeadope has teamed up with Evolution Music to press the world’s first bioplastic LP. The bioplastic LPs are made of a plant-based high-performance natural polymer that is more sustainable than PVC. This initiative is a significant step towards reducing the environmental impact of vinyl pressing processes.
